Volume control is too technical

A department head at my company walked up to me.

“I have a presentation that I’ll need to listen to on Thursday, but I don’t think the sound works on my computer. I have speakers, and the green light is on, but I never hear anything.”

I looked at him, “You probably just need to adjust the volume level on your computer as well as your speakers.”

He shook his head sadly. “That sounds too technical for me.”

I’ve lived this day. Except it was no one could figure out to push the power button on the computer. -Scott

  1. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had store managers – who are responsible for every penny the company takes in for their store – be literally unable to read an error message off the screen in front of them “because that’s computer stuff, and I don’t know anything about computer stuff.”
