Every company has *that user* sometimes, more than one.  The user in question isn’t a bad guy, just doesn’t know which end of the computer-machine is up.  He’s opened more tickets than any other user in the company and it frustrates my coworkers to the point where nobody else will work with him.  In fact, he emailed us last week and when I said I’d help him, as usual, my boss replied “Bless you.”

So I spent hours removing the latest mutation of scareware from this user’s computer since he works remotely and was using a cellular air card for Internet access.  I verified that everything was good, the antivirus wasn’t reporting anything new.  Phew.

Today during lunch I got the following voicemail.

“Hey <IT guy>, it’s <*that* user>.  I just thought I’d let you know I just came back and looked at my computer and I just got a message on there, uh, an alert, from, to, a message from the webpage.  Windows Antivirus 2012 has found critical process activity on your PC and will perform fast a scan on your system files.  And I’m just gonna click OK on it I don’t know what it is just letting you know that it’s doing it’s thing or if that means something else.  Talk to you later.  Bye.”  (My emphasis, as you can’t bold a voicemail.)
