When I took over this facility that I am at now, they were using 7 and 10 foot patch cables for 18 to 24 inch runs, all in grey. I had to repatch everything and I used color coordinated cables, so that at a glance, you could tell which patch panel the cable came from.
Another reason, system administrators day, needs to become a federally recognized holiday
