I had been working in a computer shop for almost a year when a client came to our service desk claiming she couldn’t get her USB drive out of the port. After a quick try she was right, the key was jammed. So I ended up forcing the key out with a pair of pliers. After a brief inspection, I was apparent this was in fact not USB, but instead, an HDMI port.
Here is the discussion we had after my conclusion:
Me : I found the reason of the malfunction. it’s because you forced the USB key into an HDMI port – now the HDMI plug is damaged and will need to be replaced.
Crazy client : Well, I don’t want to pay for that!
Me : This kind of damage is not covered by your warranty.
Crazy client : I am not the one who inserted the key, it was [blurts out the name of another tech].
Me : (I lolz at her) I don’t think so… that technician has over 25 years of experience.
Crazy client : …
Crazy client : Ok, how much is it going to cost?
Me you and everybody in the world : (insert facepalm here)
