I worked for a large industrial manufacturing company at the main headquarters (BEAUTIFUL campus!) – it was the early 90’s and I worked for the Computer and Information Systems department, or ‘CIS’ for short.
At some point during my tenure there, they decided that it was necessary to rename our department to ‘Managed Information Systems.’ Letterheads, business cards, office placards and various systems were changed (obviously consuming many hours of work and copious amounts of money)…
…why?
The C-levels thought people in other departments might be confused as the acronym ‘CIS’ was the same as the relatively newly formed Commonwealth of Independent States in Russia.
Seriously?
