If you are in your late 30’s or above, you may remember going to the theater to to watch the dubious story of Matthew Broderick accidentally “starting” thermonuclear war with his home computer in Wargames. At the time, it probably seemed all too realistic considering the limited knowledge we all had re: how computers and networks operated.
Reported by ITWorld, the original IMSAI 8080 microcomputer, modem, keyboard, and a number of other movie-related paraphernalia owned by Todd Fischer is available to the highest bidder. Two years ago (that’s like 20 computer years!), the 8080, modem and keyboard were going to go up for auction at Christie’s in London, but Fischer stated he was concerned about getting the working hardware there without damaging it.
In any case, it would be awesome to have such an item, especially if you are a movie buff and a computer enthusiast. However, I know I have that kind of disposable income – $25,000 was the Christie’s starting price – – I’m an IT guy, I guess I’ll have to mine for Bitcoins.
