The ‘U’ in USB…

Woman has a Kindle. It was charged when she bought it, but now the battery has run down and she needs it charged – and it’s not working.

For lack of better options, I ask if she has a cell phone – and what kind it is. Quick Google reveals that it’s on the micro-USB bandwagon. I ask her to plug this into her Kindle and tell me if the Kindle starts to charge.

It does.

I went into an explanation of how this is a very common charger type, and the amount of power going through it is different but it tells us that the problem is with her charging cable rather than her Kindle.

She heard none of this, apparently. After I finished my explanation, she was quiet for a moment. Then, she very slowly asked, “So what you’re telling me is that the Kindle people put a cell phone charger hole in my Kindle instead of a Kindle one?”
