Brian Boyko evaluates Windows 8. Spoiler alert: It’s worse than “not good.”

This is a LONG video (around 23 minutes), but it is informative, entertaining and highlights some of the most glaring problems with Windows 8.

There’s a little NSFW language, but I think the subject matter deserves it. Thanks to my friend Marco for posting this on Google Plus!

The thing for me is this: In my experience, Windows is first and foremost a business OS with features tacked-on for home users (and done pretty well with Windows 7). This new version tho’ – – it’s scary to businesses. It’s nothing like the prior 15+ years of Windows; it would take a fair bit of training to get your staff used to it – and we all know how people respond to training and new things.

That’s my beef – what’s yours? Or do you use Windows 8 and like it?

  1. *shrug* have no problems with Win8 and a mouse/keyboard. I’ve found it to be faster in what I’m able to do.. though, the design of 8 DOES suck. the PC is NOT a tablet.

  2. While i am able to use this this OS, I agree 100% that it is not a enterprise OS. Of course with win8 pro we have “downgrade” (i think upgrade is a better term) rights to Win7 pro. I use it home on my Media center and I like it for that….And i have a wp8 and I really like it, the UI is simplified. As much as i love Android, WP8 just seems faster to use, not even taking the performance of the device into account. the apps are terrible, but that is neither here nor there. Now, based on past trends, i would agree that this is terrible for older non techie members of society, but i have been proven wrong, several times in fact. I have talked to several retirees and baby boomers who have bought new Win8 pc’s who when they saw me cringe said ” Oh no, no I” live it!!”. Odd….but common denominators??? all these users have smart phones and all the computers came with touch screens. these people never leave the metro UI (AppScreen??) and there for never have to deal with the desktop of the lack of a start button. A machinist buddy bought one and hated it, until in stalled classic shell…then he found it tolerable. I hate those that compare this OS to vista though, this is not vista, the OS works. the problems are with the UI, this is a completely new monster. We should call it Windows Balmer.

  3. Windows 8 – Windows ME for the new…well, I’d say millennium, but we’ve moved past that. It’s Windows ME for the new decade – and just as ugly, useless and disastrous as ME was.

  4. Hey Rob, so glad to hear someone articulate the key problem with Win 8: business users, who are mostly trained to “just do x every time and it works”. They’re not trained in concepts and overviews but how to complete specific tasks in the least time possible. Win 8 is such a complete change that it will cause major disruption to business efficiencies plus scare the bejesus out of senior management…
Mind you, it will provide plenty of fodder for new Faildesk entries! (Always got to look on the flip side!)

  5. See point on bad design, the home PC is not a tablet, so either MS needs to make a new PC OS, or give us touch screen monitors.

    • Parts of the video were a bit childish but overall what he said was very true. He made quite a number of strong points why Windows 8 is so terrible.
